Folkmore- Class Syllabus
Kuma Lisa Academy
Logic For Dimensional Interlopers: Reconciling Souls and Philosophical Implications with Pragmatic Realism- College level (but not age-restricted) course to address the tough questions that come with existential displacement, alternate versions of the Self, and what to do when your worldview is not just challenged, but wholly decimated. You're not crackerjacks, you've just been plucked from reality and planted in another one, and it might not even be your first time.
Each unit is capped by an assigned essay. Essays are graded based on the skill of the arguments' presentation, and not on the arguments themselves.
UNIT I: If They Are Me, Then Who Am I?: Examination of alternate selves and identities when multiple bodies, resurrections, and timeline tampering are involved.
UNIT II: Kidnappers, Challengers and Liberators: This unit explores one's personal relationship with their situation (or situations) having been plucked from their home world. Ambivalence is expected and different viewpoints are welcomed, given the tremendous scope of this unit. Students are asked to give examples of their experiences world-hopping, and if none are provided, the professor will supply models based on nothing in particular.
MIDTERM (multiple choice, short answer, and essay, extra credit is bringing any baked good and leaving it on the professor's desk.)
UNIT III: Delightful, Delicious, Delovely; Friendship, Romance, and Rivalry:- This unit covers the rewarding and sometimes fraught nature of establishing relationships when one is plucked out of time and self. Is it ethical? How does heartbreak or devotion stack up against what one believed to be "normal" before being drawn elsewhere? When does commitment go too far, and how can someone promise "forever" when even tomorrow isn't guaranteed?
UNIT IV: An Uneasy Peace- This unit addresses proceeding with existence, as it is today in Folkmore, taking every new morning as what it is. All feelings are valid; panic attacks and crying are expected and classmates are encouraged to offer those who struggle words of support or even hugs. This is the only unit that is not assigned an essay; the assignment is a group project and requires classmates to perform acts of support or kindness for each other. The assignment is graded on sincerity rather than any material metric, and as a Diviner, the professor can tell.
FINAL EXAM: Write an essay that no one will ever see about the worst thing you have ever done. Burn it. Attend a potluck party with the rest of the class to celebrate the spirit of self-forgiveness. Extra credit is a baked item for the teacher, worth anywhere from 1 point (a single hard candy) to 10 points (an elaborate and decadent wedding cake.)
TUTORING (any subject)
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, and occasional weekend hours, L is available for tutoring for any subject, at any age or grade level.
